Easter wind warning issued for North Wales Coast

A spell of strong winds is set to hit the North Wales coast over the Easter weekend, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning covering the region.

The warning is in place from 6pm on Saturday, April 4 until midday on Easter Sunday, and includes areas such as Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire.

Forecasters say a deep area of low pressure will move across northwestern parts of the UK, bringing a period of strong west to southwesterly winds overnight into Sunday morning. Gusts of 50 to 60mph are expected across much of North Wales, with more exposed coastal and elevated areas—such as headlands and seafronts—potentially seeing gusts of up to 70mph.

For communities along the North Wales coast, the conditions could bring disruption during what is usually a busy Easter getaway period.

The Met Office has warned that strong winds may lead to travel delays on roads and rail services, with a possibility of cancellations, particularly on more exposed coastal routes. High-sided vehicles could face difficult driving conditions on bridges and open roads, while there is also a small risk of power cuts affecting homes and businesses.

Along the coastline, large waves and strong gusts could create hazardous conditions, with the potential for sea spray, debris and beach material to be thrown onto promenades and coastal roads. People visiting the seaside over the bank holiday are being urged to take extra care and stay well back from the water during rough conditions.

There is also a slight chance of minor damage to buildings, such as tiles being blown from roofs, particularly in areas most exposed to the wind.

Despite the unsettled weather, the warning is expected to ease eventually through Sunday, with conditions improving later in the day.

With many people expected to head to the coast for the Easter break, residents and visitors across North Wales are being advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and plan ahead to stay safe.
