June 25, 2026 - 150 views

Residents from across the county are been invited to get out and explore the natural world around them as Wales Nature Week returns from 4–12 July 2026.

To launch the week, a free family-friendly Nature Day will be held at Eirias Park on Saturday 4 July, running from 11am to 3pm and funded through the Welsh Government’s Local Places for Nature Programme.

The event will bring together local organisations, community groups and residents for a day focused on nature, wellbeing and environmental awareness. Activities will include nature-themed arts and crafts, interactive stalls, storytelling, face painting and opportunities to learn more about local wildlife and conservation work across Conwy.

Visitors are encouraged to take part, discover green spaces in their area and find simple ways to support biodiversity in everyday life.

Cllr Mike Priestley, Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads and Infrastructure, said the event offers a chance for people of all ages to reconnect with the natural environment.

He said: “Nature is all around us in our parks, communities and coastline, and this is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages across Conwy to reconnect with it.”

He added that the Nature Day at Eirias Park would help families come together while learning practical ways to protect and support the environment.

Wales Nature Week is coordinated by the Wales Biodiversity Partnership and supported by organisations and communities across the country, all working to promote and protect biodiversity.

Across the county, residents are being encouraged to notice the rich variety of wildlife on their doorstep. The area’s coastline is a key natural feature, with rocky shores and sandy stretches providing habitats for seabirds, and occasional sightings of marine wildlife such as seals along parts of the North Wales coast.

Inland, green spaces, parks and woodland areas also support birds, insects and small mammals throughout the year, while community initiatives continue to encourage planting for pollinators and protecting local habitats.

In Colwyn Bay, places such as the promenade, Pwllycrochan Woods and nearby nature reserves offer easy access to wildlife and walking routes, helping residents and visitors connect with nature without travelling far from home.

Residents are encouraged to attend the Nature Day and take part throughout the week by exploring local green spaces and learning more about the wildlife that thrives across Conwy.
