Conwy County Borough Council is reminding householders to fully check companies offering to install free or low cost energy efficiency equipment or other improvements in their homes.
The Council is asking Conwy residents to be vigilant and to double-check that the company they choose is legitimate. Consider looking on the Buy with Confidence website.
Everyone should check the credentials of any company that approaches them with a cold call or similar, even if they look genuine.
Anyone can fall victim to fraudsters and to scams of all kinds, so everybody needs to be vigilant. Don’t feel pressured to make a decision or to sign any documents, and always check with someone you trust for a second opinion.
Conwy’s Regulatory Services Trading Standards team advises that householders do some research first by checking online reviews, looking for examples of previous work, and finding out if the company is accredited.
They would also recommend, if possible, to get a few different quotes, and that you consider that cheapest quote might not always be the right choice.
