Darren Millar, Welsh Conservative Shadow Tourism Minister and MS for Clwyd West, has welcomed the UK Conservative Government’s announcement of extending VAT relief to the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The Chancellor cut the VAT rate from 20% to 5% in July for a period of six months but this has now been extended to March 2021.

He said: “The announcement is very welcome news for tourism operators, pubs, cafes and restaurants in Wales.

"The tourism and hospitality industry is incredibly important to our economy but has been hit hard by the pandemic and faces further uncertainty ahead so extra VAT relief will make a real difference to the sector.

"It is clear that the UK Government is continuing to do everything in its power to support and protect jobs and livelihoods throughout Wales."
