Hafal, one of the areas leading mental health charities are set to join up with Colwyn Bay based CAIS to hold a physical health awareness day early next month here in the town.

Members of the community are being invited to discover the many inequalities that people with a serious mental illness and their carers face when it comes to their physical health by taking part in a sports day themed event.

The event 'Let's Get Physical' will be held on Thursday 12th August at Stadiwm Zip World in Eirias Park.

The event brings over 200 people from the North Wales area with various experiences of mental ill health to learn how important good physical health can be to your wellbeing.

The day will be filled with a wide range of fun, physical activities such as a tug-of-war, penalty shoot-out, races and many other track and field events where attendees will have the opportunity to take part in competitions and use a top sports facilities.

The aim of the event is to not only inform people of the differences that improved physical health can have, but to also help them to implement these changes into their day to day lives.

As well as giving people the opportunity to try a range of fun activities, organisers want participants to have access to a variety of information, advice and guidance about how they can take small steps towards maintaining good health by eating more healthily, raising their activity levels, having regular health checks, quitting smoking and reducing their alcohol consumption amongst other things.

As well as offering free exhibition space for community organisations, exhibitors are also being invited to enter a small team for the day's event. This might provide staff with an excellent team building day while also promoting the importance of maintaining good physical and mental health.

Exhibitor teams would compete against each other in a variety of events, with the winning team claiming the Exhibitors Trophy.
