Thanks to grant funding through Community Voluntary Support Conwy (CVSC) and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the St David’s Hospice store on Lloyd Street has officially reopened its doors following a significant transformation.
The shop is a vital part of the hospice’s network of 12 regional stores, raising essential funds to provide palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses across Conwy, Gwynedd, and Anglesey.
Margaret Hollings, Commercial Director at St David’s Hospice, said:
The funding also allowed the hospice team to undergo specialist Visual Merchandising training, equipping them with the skills to create inviting, aesthetically pleasing shop floors and window displays.
The redesigned layout offers more space for a relaxed shopping experience. In addition to high-quality pre-loved items, the store has introduced new goods and a unique range of greeting cards featuring designs created by St David’s Hospice patients during Art Therapy sessions. Supporters can also now conveniently drop off items at the store’s dedicated new ‘Donation Station.’
Commenting on the community response, Margaret added: "We’ve had such positive feedback from our visitors; it’s clear the community is excited to shop with purpose. The changes we’ve made are not just about creating a beautiful space; they are about ensuring every visit helps support the essential services we provide to local families."
St David’s Hospice must raise £5.2 million this year to fund its free palliative care and wellbeing services. With daily running costs reaching £13,700, the income from retail stores is more critical than ever.
"Every purchase made at our charity shops directly supports local families facing life-limiting illnesses," said Margaret. "Every time you shop with us, you’re supporting the local economy, choosing sustainable fashion, and helping us provide care when it matters most."
