Frustration as Buckley win halts Bay's winning ways

August 29, 2021 - 1049 views

Colwyn Bay's three-match winning run came to an end with a narrow defeat at Buckley.

The only goal of the game came right on half-time with Jake Roberts curling a shot into the top corner.

The Bay, missing Tom McCready and Llyr Morris from the squad that beat Llangefni in midweek along with numerous players sidelined by injury, pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half.

Sion Edwards came off the bench, having missed the previous five games through injury, but Bay couldn't get the ball past home keeper Cameron Darling who made a couple of key saves for his side.

Manager Craig Hogg commented: "It wasn't a good day for us and we are frustrated by the result.

"There wasn't much between the two sides throughout the contest, but that said I don't feel we had enough efforts on goal to get something from the game in the end.

"We conceded a goal right before half-time which wasn't ideal, but take nothing away from the lad who scored it. It was a really good hit into the top corner and gave Andy (Coughlin) no chance.

"The lads gave everything possible in the second half and played some decent stuff.

"We had a really strong case for a penalty towards the end of the game with a hand ball in the box and I'm sure why it hasn't been given.

"I'll know more when I see the footage back, but the players were adamant it was a penalty and we feel a little hard done to on that issue.

"On a positive note it was good to get Sion Edwards back on the pitch after his lengthy lay off and we hope to have Tom McCready back with us for the next game after being unavailable due to a personal commitment.

"Llyr Morris dropped out this morning with illness and we will have to assess him over the next couple of days.

"On the injury front we are still some weeks away before we see any of the seven other players currently sidelined."
