A heritage steam railway is putting gin on the timetable this October as it stages a special evening journey to raise money for the 2027 National Eisteddfod.

The Gin Train will depart at 6.30pm on 28 October, taking passengers on an evening steam journey through the Welsh countryside while they sample spirits from local producer Dyfi Distillery.

Guests will be able to try a selection of the distillery's Welsh spirits and hear the stories behind them, including a limited-edition gin created especially for the event – Jin Maldwyn Meirionnydd.

The evening is being organised to raise funds for the 2027 National Eisteddfod, which will celebrate the Welsh language, music, culture and arts.

Organisers also hope the unusual event will attract new audiences to both the railway and the Eisteddfod.

Liz Porrett, General Manager Operations at the Talyllyn Railway, said the event would bring together two organisations with strong connections to the local area.

The Gin Train runs from 6.30pm until 9pm on Wednesday 28 October and is open to over-18s only.

Tickets cost £45 per person and must be booked in advance. Details and tickets are available from the Talyllyn Railway website.
