Aberconwy's MS Janet Finch-Saunders has welcomed the Chair of the Senedd’s Petitions Committee to Glan Conwy to discuss a petitions' request to implement a 20 MPH speed limit 100 metres either side of the area’s new pedestrian crossing.
Mrs. Finch-Saunders and Jack Sargeant met with the petitioner, Cllr. Dan Worsley. The petition outlines that many residents are concerned about the speed of vehicles which, over a 2-week period, were recorded by the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent as averaging 32.8 MPH.
Commenting after the meeting, Janet said: “After an eight year campaign with the community, in which I wrote letters and asked questions of Welsh Government Ministers, I was most delighted to have helped secured this much needed crossing to increase road safety and unite both sides of the village.
“Following concerns raised about the speed in which vehicles have been approaching this new zebra crossing, I was also most pleased to make urgent representations to the Welsh Government which resulted in a new design proposal to ensure drivers were made aware of the crossing in good time.
“Further to this proactive work, I welcome today’s productive site meeting with the Chair of the Senedd Petitions Committee and the local petitioner so that the committee can have a more insightful understanding of the concerns raised.
“As we push these concerns towards the homeward straight, I will look to continue to engage with the community to ensure this is resolved.”
