High level of demand puts pressure on Welsh ambulances

Increased pressure on the Welsh Ambulance Service as the New Year gets underway has forced bosses to make a plea to the public.

A statement published late yesterday highlighted the negative influence being felt by crews not just in North Wales, but across the country.

A spokesperson said: "We are experiencing high levels of demand due to the high number of calls in the recent days.

"We have received almost 13,000 calls to 999 since Boxing Day, and almost 36,000 calls to the NHS 111 Wales service.

"We’re working really hard to deliver the best possible care to patients, but our ask of the public today – and in the coming days – is only to call 999 if they are seriously ill or injured, or where there is an immediate threat to someone’s life."
