Coleg Llandrillo’s Independent Living Skills department has raised £600 for good causes in recent weeks after also making and selling poppies for Remembrance Day

Coleg Llandrillo’s Independent Living Skills department raised more than £300 for Colwyn Gateway Club through its Christmas Market.

The department has now contributed more than £600 for charity in recent weeks, after also raising £300 for the Royal British Legion by making and selling poppies for Remembrance Day.

Stalls at the Christmas Market sold Christmas wreaths, cards and decorations made by ILS learners. Also on sale were books pre-wrapped as gifts by Preparation for FE learners to mark ‘Jolabokflod’, the Icelandic tradition of giving books for Christmas.

The stalls were run by ILS learners and staff, who also held a tombola and a ‘Guess the name of the teddy’ competition.

Other stalls sold coasters, mugs, cards and decorations made by Creative Arts students, as well as birdboxes and other items built by Construction students.

The market ran for three-and-a-half hours outside the main reception in Rhos, with hundreds of students and staff visiting to buy Christmas gifts and help raise money.

Jane Myatt, Programme Area Manager for Pre-Vocational Studies and Independent Living Skills, said the day was a huge success.

She said: “ILS staff and learners have once again organised a very successful Christmas Market, managing to raise more than £300 for Colwyn Gateway Club.

“Well done everyone and thank you to everyone who helped make the Christmas market a success.”
