Innovative matting to improve accessibility to Bay's beaches

New beach matting which can extend across our sands in the Colwyn Bay area will make access to our beaches so much easier thanks to generous project funding.

The Bay of Colwyn Town Council, working with Conwy County Borough Council’s Harbour Master and his team, organised testing the recently delivered accessible beach matting.

Having the opportunity to thoroughly test the beach mats will ensure they are ready for use by next spring. This testing of the new kit reflects the Town Council's commitment to enhancing the beach experience for everyone and addressing any potential concerns in advance of the busy season.

Cllr Ricki Owen Mayor of The Bay of Colwyn “We are excited to announce that Colwyn Bay Beach will soon be more accessible, thanks to the installation of new beach mats. These mats will provide a safe and convenient pathway across the sand, making it easier for families with pushchairs and others with mobility needs to enjoy our beautiful coastline.

“The new beach mats are part of our ongoing efforts to make Colwyn Bay a more accessible and welcoming destination, and we can’t wait to see them in use.

"The beach mats project has been made possible through £10,000 of funding from the UK Government, via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and Conwy County Borough Council Community Regeneration Key Fund.

"We are excited to see these improvements come to life and look forward to welcoming visitors to a more accessible Colwyn Bay Beach.”
