Tonight the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has issued a statement to confirm that a sunken vessel said to be "of significant interest" has been located in the waters off Colwyn Bay.

It is thought that the MAIB commissioned vessel had been looking for the missing fishing boat Nicola Faith when the discovery was made.

Full details about the description or nature of the sunken vessel has not yet been made whilst investigations are on-going.

As a result of the find the Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents has issued a ‘Notice of Direction to Prohibit Access’ around the wreck requiring that the site be left undisturbed until further notice, pending further investigation by the MAIB.

"Specifically prohibited are: anchoring in the vicinity of the wreck, fishing by nets, trawls or lines in the vicinity of the wreck, and any diving operations on the wreck or its outlying gear. "

"For the purposes of this direction notice, the vicinity of the wreck shall be taken to be a circle, radius 200 metres, centred on the wreck’s location."

It is expected that more information will be released in due course.
