Two people have died after a light aircraft failed to arrive at Caernarfon Airport and was later found in a remote area near Trawsfynydd.
North Wales Police received reports shortly after midday yesterday, that the aircraft, which had been travelling from an airfield in England, had not arrived at Caernarfon as scheduled.
A multi-agency search operation involving air and ground teams was launched, and the aircraft was eventually located in a remote location near Trawsfynydd.
The two people on board were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been informed and has deployed a team of investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Chief Superintendent Owain Llewellyn said: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragic incident.
“We will support the AAIB with their investigation to ensure the circumstances leading to this incident are fully understood.
“This has been a challenging search operation and I am grateful to all of the agencies involved for their professionalism and dedication.”
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
