As children under 8 prepare to go back to school, further education students will also see a phased return to on site learning from today, Monday 22nd February onwards.

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has announced that it will be reopening parts of its Rhos-on-Sea, Rhyl and Llangefni campuses with a small number of classes invited to attend face-to-face sessions for the first time since December.

In line with the latest Welsh Government guidelines for the post-16 sector, campus-based learning will be limited to those undertaking vocational qualifications. These include Construction, Engineering, Landbased, Motor Vehicle and Professional Cookery subjects.

This means that the majority of students will continue to be taught remotely for now.

Dafydd Evans, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai Chief Executive said: "We are pleased to see a gradual return of some students to our campuses, and the main priority for us is the safety of our learners and staff.

"In preparation we've introduced more stringent measures to keep everyone safe, including 2 metre social distancing and mandatory face coverings in classrooms and workshops."

He added: "But in reality, it is only a very small number of students who'll be asked to attend college to complete assessments, where they cannot be done remotely. All other learners will continue with online learning from home.

"We know that this will come as a disappointment to many students who find it extremely challenging for a number of reasons. That is why we have, since the start of the pandemic last year, strengthened the support services on offer to help with their mental, physical and educational wellbeing.

"I really hope that we can welcome more groups of learners back onto campus in the coming months. In the meantime, we'll closely follow the guidance issued by the Welsh Government whilst continuing to deliver first class online education to all our students."
