Llandudno library move to Venue Cymru gets underway

A consultation on moving Llandudno library into the extended Venue Cymru building starts today.

Conwy’s Economy & Culture Service is asking people for their opinions on moving Llandudno library into the Venue Cymru building as part of a £10million project funded by UK Government.

The proposal to move Llandudno library to the ground floor at Venue Cymru aims to provide better access for people with disabilities, reduced mobility or using prams.  Library users would also have access to a Changing Places facility within the building.

The longer opening hours at Venue Cymru would mean access to library collections could increase, by using self-service checking in and out whenever the building is open.

With free-to-use work desks, a café, and a range of cultural activities available to customers; library users would also have access to dedicated on-site parking, including multiple accessible bays, EV bays, and some free short-stay spaces.

The move would also bring the library nearer to major residential areas of Craig y Don, placing it within easy walking distance of more local families.

Cllr Aaron Wynne, Cabinet Member for Culture, Governance and IT said, “It’s vital that we explore every avenue to help safeguard and enhance the future of our services. I’d urge library users and local residents to get involved and let us know your views.”

The survey is available on the Conwy website at: www.conwy.gov.uk/en/Council/Have-your-say/Consultations/Llandudno-Library-Consultation

You can also get a paper copy from all local libraries and reception at Coed Pella or call 01492 576139. The consultation runs for 6 weeks, and views must be submitted no later than September 23rd 2024.

The results of the consultation will be presented to councillors at a later date to help inform their decision.
