Friends of Mostyn Street – the local community group dedicated to the upkeep and regeneration of Llandudno town centre – are pleased to announce that they are back with a special Christmas window and display competition to bring the Yuletide spirit to the Queen of Welsh Resorts.
This follows a successful trial two years ago of a Christmas campaign in the town centre involving local businesses. This year’s project, dubbed Merry Mostyn Street, is being generously supported by Llandudno Town Council with £500 in cash prizes for the best festive window and frontage displays.
The organisers are keen for as many local businesses as possible to get involved. The plan is to make Llandudno a go-to destination for residents and visitors seeking some Christmas spirit, coupled with the personal service offered by local shops and service providers.
Whether they’re a shop, café, pub, hospitality, bank or professional service provider, the organisers welcome participation from all types of enterprise.
To make things as simple as possible for businesses at a busy time, there will be no element of late-night shopping involved, nor will there be a map trail as in previous years. However, organisers will publish a list online of participating businesses for people to visit and to encourage support for local enterprises.
In addition to the window and frontage displays, other valued local businesses are getting involved in the festive fun too. The Llandudno Land Train plans to slow down and point out the best of the windows throughout the month to encourage passengers to stop, visit and take a closer look.
Gini Rivers, Chair, Friends of Mostyn Street, said: “Friends of Mostyn Street are working hard in partnership with Llandudno Town Council and others to bring magic and sparkle to Llandudno’s town centre. I would encourage all local businesses to get involved and make their frontages as festive as possible. I would also encourage residents and visitors to support the Merry Mostyn Street experience when it gets underway.
“Christmas is such a hugely important time of the year. It’s the Golden Quarter for businesses and, as a community, we need to support our local business owners as much as possible. We all want to see Mostyn Street remain a vibrant and attractive shopping area. At this time of year, that means making it as eye-catching and Christmassy as possible.
“We also want to help businesses tap into new markets, so making Llandudno as instagrammable as possible is an important part of that and to encourage people to see Llandudno as the go-to place for that festive feel and that Christmas experience. This will have dividends for all businesses – from shops and cafes to pubs, hotels and guest houses. So join in the Merry Mostyn Street experience and make our town not only the Queen of Welsh Resorts but the Queen of Christmas too.”
Llandudno residents should keep an eye over next couple of weeks for a magical little Christmas Cracker or two that they will be able to book through the Land Train booking site: https://www.facebook.com/share/17hq4gUDW2/?mibextid=wwXIfr
To get involved, local businesses are asked to complete a short form via the following link: https://friendsofmostynstreet.co.uk/signup-page/
