Contractors are moving on site this week to prepare for constructing a new truncated pier for Colwyn Bay.
Grosvenor Construction Ltd, a specialist building-conservation company based in Kinmel Bay, are constructing the pier.
Whilst Calibre Metalwork Ltd, specialists in metalwork conservation, restoration and replication, are currently refurbishing the cast iron.
Cllr Brian Cossey is Chairman of the Pier Project Board, he said: “Building the truncated pier was part of the Welsh Government’s planning conditions - there was no other alternative, but thanks to the Council’s Conservation Officer we’ve preserved as much of the material of the original Pier as possible.”
Council Leader, Cllr Sam Rowlands, said: “I’m pleased to see progress and, thanks to the good work of the councillors and officers involved, the new pier will be built without the need for additional money and therefore no additional burden to local tax payers.
"We’re confident the replacement will be of a high standard; will complement the area; and will provide a long-lasting facility for local residents.”
The work to construct the new truncated pier is expected to be completed in summer 2020.
