Rydal Penrhos’ project to produce protective masks for NHS staff and other keyworkers across the region has received an incredible response.
The school has joined other local schools including Ysgol Bryn Elian who have rallied round to create protective equipment to local NHS and Care Home workers.
Rydal Penrhos' design technology teacher Mark Harmsworth, technician James Bonser and Sixth Form pupil Jamie Lavery have been working hard during the closure on making high-spec equipment that has already been delivered to various facilities along the North Wales coast.
This includes nearby Merton Place Care Home in Colwyn Bay and Ysbyty Gwynedd’s maternity ward.
A crowdfunding page was set up by the school to further add to the financial commitment from Rydal Penrhos towards the project.
Thanks to the generosity of the school and wider community, the project has an additional £1,857 from their £2,500 target, which equates to 742 protective masks.
The trio will continue using the school’s 3D printers throughout the week to make the masks and distribute them to those in need.
Senior School head Sally Ann Harding, said: “We are indebted to out critical keyworkers across the region who are showing true resolve and during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are striving to help in whatever way we can here at Rydal Penrhos, and I would like to thank those who have donated to the protective mask project, which will hopefully make a massive difference during a very difficult time.”
