Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed news that a social enterprise in his constituency has received funding from the National Lottery to help bring communities together.

Pigtown Theatre CIC, based in Mochdre, have been awarded a total of £8,095 of National Lottery funding after successfully applying to the National Lottery Community Fund.

The National Lottery are currently prioritising application for Covid-19 related activity, however as this project applied to them before the crisis hit in Wales, the activity will either adapt to support the current needs of their community, or postpone the start of their project.

Pigtown Theatre is a social enterprise creating performance and interactive experiences in the community for organisations and schools.

The funding it has received is for a project which will help bring the community together via social media and newsletters. It will provide some light relief and entertainment to help support people’s well-being. The money will fund the creation of 17 weeks of shows, 17 short films, 9 newsletters, printing costs and props.

Darren said: “During these difficult times, it is great to receive some positive news and I thank the National Lottery Community Fund for working flexibly with organisations throughout this pandemic.

“This funding will enable Pigtown Theatre to continue the great work it does creating performance and interactive experiences in the community. I congratulate them on their successful funding application and wish them the best of luck with this venture.”

Since March and the outbreak of Covid-19, the National Lottery Community Fund have awarded a total of £10.8m to 346 community groups across Wales, many of which are directly supporting people and their communities through the pandemic.

They remain open to new applications and aim to distribute this funding to where it’s vitally needed as quickly as possible.
