Colwyn Bay's skipper Tom McCready is in line to make his 150th appearance for the club in Saturday’s JD Welsh Cup tie against Llanrwst United at the 4 Crosses Arena (2pm kick off).
Macca is getting back to match fitness after ankle surgery and got his first 90 minutes under his belt in last weekend’s game at Bala, where he added to his assists tally with his corner setting up to Guto Williams’ goal.
Since joining the club, initially on loan from AFC Fylde, in January 2018 and making his debut in a 2-1 home win over Kendal Town, Tom has been a stalwart member of the first team squad and is four away from notching up his 50th goal for the club.
He’ll want to mark his 150th with victory on Saturday, although Llanrwst will be no pushovers, having already knocked Conwy Borough out of the competition this season.
Manager Barry Owen now has former Bay first team coach and Academy Director Matt Sampson on his management team, and the side are in the top three of the Ardal North West League.
They are top scorers in the division with former Seagull Callum Parry, who has been named Ardal North West Player of the Month for September after scoring a hat-trick in the recent win over Saltney Town, a real threat up front.
Seagulls boss Steve Evans is expecting a tough test but says: “The Welsh Cup is a great competition, a competition I have great memories of and a competition I want to create great memories for us as a club.
“Our run to the semi-finals two seasons ago was great for everyone involved at Colwyn Bay.
“The Seagulls fans were unreal at Connah’s Quay and at Rhyl against TNS, and we want to give them days like that again as we are all a little frustrated at the moment in the league.
“I feel our performances have deserved more points than we have.
“The work rate, effort and commitment from everyone is unquestionable, we just need some decisions to go our way, take one or two of the chances we are creating, and tighten up on silly mistakes, then our performances will produce the right results.
“Saturday’s game against Llanrwst will be a good test for us. They are flying high at the top of their league and the connection with Matt (Sampson) who was with us last season adds to what will be a great cup game.
“We are looking forward to doing the work this week ready to go and give the Seagulls something to cheer about on Saturday.”
