A man who sexually assaulted a woman as she walked her dog in a Colwyn Bay park has been jailed for more than three years.

Tyler Evans, 25, of Glyn Avenue, Colwyn Bay, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court today to three years and two months in prison after being convicted of sexual assault and exposure.

The court heard Evans attacked a lone woman in Eirias Park on October 6 last year, grabbing her while she was walking her dog. His genitals were exposed during the incident.

Following the assault, North Wales Police launched an investigation and carried out a plain clothes operation in the area. Evans was arrested two days later and was subsequently charged with sexual assault and exposure.

He denied both offences but was found guilty by a jury at Mold Crown Court in May.

In addition to his prison sentence, Evans has been ordered to register indefinitely as a sex offender.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Kneale said the incident had been a frightening ordeal for the victim.

He said: “This incident must have been a terrifying experience for the victim while out walking her dog in Eirias Park - a location where everybody should feel safe.

“I hope today’s sentence goes some way in reassuring her that Tyler Evans can cause no further harm to anyone else.

“Violence against women and girls and pursuing those that cause the most harm in our communities remains one of our key priorities.

“We will continue to do everything we can to ensure our streets feel safe for everyone, and to create an environment where women are not avoiding certain locations in the evenings because of the behaviour of others.

“We also encourage any victim of sexual assault to come forward with the confidence that they will be heard and supported.”

North Wales Police said tackling violence against women and girls remains one of the force’s key priorities and urged anyone who has been the victim of a sexual offence to report it, assuring them they will be listened to and supported throughout the investigation process.
