Man sentenced after A55 fatal road collision in 2022

A man has been sentenced following a fatal road traffic collision which happened near to the Britannia Bridge in January 2022.

Sadly, 52-year-old Marc Winston Roberts from Amlwch was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred on the westbound carriageway of the A55 shortly before 3am on Thursday, January 20, and involved four vehicles – a Volvo 460 Large Goods Vehicle, a Peugeot 3008, a Kia Sportage and a Scania R450 Large Goods Vehicle.

Another man suffered serious injuries and was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

The driver of the Volvo LGV - 40-year-old Ian Paul Owen of Ty’n Rhos, Gaerwen, had previously pled guilty to causing death by careless driving.

Yessterday he received a two-year prison sentence - suspended for two years, disqualified from driving for two years, has to complete 200 hours of community work and ordered to pay £420 costs.

Inspector Iwan Roberts from North Wales Police’ Roads Crime Unit said: "Owen has to live with the knowledge that his actions has resulted in the death of a much loved man.

"This is a tragic case that once again shows how vitally important it is for motorists to give their complete and unreserved attention whilst driving on the roads.

"Our thoughts and sympathies remain with Marc Winston Roberts’ family at this difficult time."
