Medieval history comes alive at Conwy Castle this October

September 19, 2026 - 236 views

Visitors to Conwy Castle will be given the chance to step back more than 700 years later this month, as an internationally touring theatre company brings an immersive medieval experience to the town.

Live History will be at the castle from October 27th to 30th with In Time Unlimited, an interactive theatrical escape-room experience set in 1283, when construction of Conwy Castle was just getting underway.

Rather than simply watching a performance, visitors become part of the story, taking on missions, solving puzzles and completing challenges as they make their way through the castle.

The fictional medieval job fair will see villagers and nobles competing for roles in the new stronghold. Participants could find themselves facing tasks ranging from cleaning a latrine to crushing grapes or even cleaning a floor with a single blade of grass.

The 60-minute experience runs continuously throughout the day, with groups entering every 15 minutes. Visitors move through different areas of the castle in small groups, meeting characters from Conwy's past and racing against the clock to discover which medieval job they will be given.

Live History is an international site-specific theatre company which has toured more than 200 venues in ten countries over the past 12 years. Its productions are created specifically around the history and location of each venue.

The company has also been nominated for the Governor General's Award for History and Community Theatre.

The Conwy performances will run from 10am until 4pm each day. The experience costs £3 in addition to the normal admission price for Conwy Castle, and there is no need to book in advance.

The event is being presented in partnership with Cadw. For more details visit https://cadw.gov.wales/live-history-time-unlimited
