Motor cruiser towed to safety after steering failure

The Llandudno lifeboat was launched to assist a disabled motor cruiser near Conwy after experiencing steering failure yesterday.

The lifeboat was launched following a request from Holyhead Coastguard to assist a 31’ motor cruiser experiencing steering failure near Conwy Fairway buoy.

The vessel’s rudder had become jammed hard to port, leaving it unable to steer.

Conwy Lifeboat’s inshore lifeboat (ILB) was also tasked and was first on scene, where the crew confirmed that the skipper and crew of the cruiser were safe and had sensibly anchored after drifting a short distance.

Llandudno all weather lifeboat arrived quickly in the relatively calm conditions and, given the nature of the mechanical issue and the vessel’s proximity to Conwy, rigged an alongside tow. The casualty vessel was safely brought to Beacons Jetty, with Conwy’s crew assisting with mooring alongside.

This incident was a textbook example of RNLI teamwork between neighbouring stations, ensuring a swift and safe resolution for all involved.
