Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is calling on small businesses in North Wales to get the recognition they rightly deserve by applying for a national award.

The Small Awards celebrates the UK’s finest small businesses across the UK.

Launched in 2017, it targets the whole small business sector, focusing on businesses often overlooked by other awards.

The awards process began on December 1st, 2025, when small businesses were invited to apply via The Small Awards website.

Entries close at midnight on February 28th 2026, and judging will be done based on a number of criteria relevant to the specific award, whilst also looking for strong performance as an on-going business.

The judges will be looking for evidences of strong community engagement from small businesses and judging will be completed by the end of April 2026.

Encouraging small businesses in North Wales to apply, Mr. Millar said: "We are extremely fortunate here in North Wales to have some excellent small businesses, and I have had the pleasure of visiting a great many of them throughout my time as an MS.

"Only recently, whilst out campaigning in Mold, I called into the legendary Hulsons for one of their delicious pies.

"They are a family run business going back years and it is great that they are still experiencing so much success.

"Small businesses depend on our support, which is why, at every opportunity, I champion them and encourage people to use them.

"They really are the backbone of local communities and it would be fantastic to see some of them formally recognised at The Small Awards 2026."
