Rydal Penrhos’ Sailing and Water-Sports Centre in Colwyn Bay is accredited by the Royal Yachting Association.

Sailing also forms part of the curriculum for younger members of the school community, which has brought a significant number of achievements regionally, nationally and even during prestigious international competitions.

Sailors across various years groups have thrived in recent months, with their sensational showing at the RYA Cymru Wales Welsh Youth and Junior Championships further evidence of the strides being made in a competitive setting.

This also brought an impressive individual accolade for Freddie MacLaverty, who was crowned Conwy Junior Sports Man of the Year at the Conwy Sports Awards held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.

Another sailor making a name for himself is Tom Sinfield, who enhanced his blossoming reputation with a starring performance at the RS Feva Winter Championship 2022, which was held at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy and featured some of the brightest young sailing talents anywhere in the country.

Tom and his sailing partner Ben Greenhalgh rose to the occasion with a superb series of races throughout the event, taking on the challenging conditions with determination and poise in equal measure en route to securing a well-deserved first-place finish as a result of their efforts.

There was further cause for celebration thanks to the sterling efforts of Fflur Pierce and Keira Luke – two outstanding ambassadors for girls’ sailing participation at Rydal Penrhos.

The ever-improving duo managed to finish 20th out of 42 boats in the face of strong competition, which is a huge accomplishment for a new team against more experienced RS Feva opposition.
