‘Potensial’, the new brand for adult and lifelong learning courses at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, was launched at a series of events last week.
Operating across the four counties of Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Anglesey, Potensial offers a wide range of courses for adult learners to develop new skills; return to learning; gain new knowledge in a subject of interest, and/or help them prepare for further learning or employment.
Through Potensial, formal and informal learning opportunities can be accessed, from entry-level courses to professional qualifications, which are accessible to all learners, and will be delivered bilingually where possible.
Learners can access courses at one of the group's sites, or within the local community in settings such as community centres and libraries.
Launch events, which were attended by staff and learners, were held at Canolfan Cymunedol Maenofferen in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s Abergele campus and the group’s ‘Tŷ Cyfle’ site in Holyhead.
Aled Jones-Griffith, said, “Adult Education has always been a key part of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai's portfolio, but it was a service that was affected worse than other provisions during the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, we’re eager to reignite it as a regional service through giving it a clear identity thanks to its unique role within the group”.
‘Get Skilled Up’ student Kelsey Hughes, from Llangefni, has just recently completed the course and is now progressing on to the ‘Introduction to Childcare’ course.
Kelsey explained, “I’ve really enjoyed the class - it’s been really good meeting new people and making friends. I have young children at home so it’s been a fantastic opportunity for me to have some time for myself and learn about something that interests me”.
She added, “The courses are mostly delivered bilingually, which is great as I’ve been able to complete the work in Welsh. I’m looking forward to starting the Introduction to Childcare course soon”
Sean Alexander, from Holyhead, is studying Creative Writing for Wellbeing and Introduction to Social Sciences through Potensial.
Sean said, “I joined the courses for pleasure, as I’ve always enjoyed writing and the social sciences really interest me. Both my tutors, Rhian and Vanessa, are really enthusiastic, supportive and provide useful feedback on our work.
“Trips are in the process of being organised for the Creative Writing course I’m on which is really exciting, we’re hoping to visit Penrhos and the Breakwater Country Park in Holyhead soon, which are hoped to give us a bit of inspiration with our writing”.
