New balls for Conwy County marking Fairtrade Fortnight

March 05, 2020 - 1504 views

Conwy County Borough Council has invested in some new kit to mark Fairtrade Fortnight, which takes place from 24 February to 8 March 2020.

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

This year, to mark the event and to help deliver the Fairtrade message, Conwy Leisure Services have sourced brand new Fairtrade sports balls from UK-based supplier Bala Sport.

Cllr Louise Emery, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, is also the Council’s champion for ethical procurement.

She said: “The Council recognises the importance of schemes that ensure producers receive a fair deal for their produce and that they trade ethically.

“We want to raise public awareness of supporting high ethical standards, and encourage individuals and organisations across Conwy to support Fairtrade by buying Fairtrade products.”

Teams or community groups wanting to use the great training facilities, and the Fairtrade footballs, at Parc Eirias should contact reception on 01492 577900 or email richard.orme@eirias.org.uk for more information.
