Rhyl's inboard lifeboat was launched ealier this afternoon to a report of an inflatable drifting out to sea off East Rhyl.

The inflatable was found to have no occupants, so the crew tracked back up wind to try to find the owner, somewhere off Kinmel Bay. They were joined by Rhyl coastguard team to find the owners.

With no-one coming forward, the ILB slowly tracked back to the boathouse in case anyone raised their attention. The ILB returned to station at 1400 with no-one claiming the inflatable.

Helm Callum Robinson says: "With an offshore wind as today, it is very easy for small inflatables to easily get blown out to sea, if they are not attached by a cord to a point or person on land. If the craft does get blown out, do not try to rescue any occupants, and tell them to stay in the vessel. Dial 999 and ask for Coastguard."

No person was reported missing, and so the lifeboat and coastguard returned to station.

The photo shows track of inshore lifeboat and illustrates the distance offshore the inflatable was found when it was recovered; and the track back of the lifeboat up-wind to where it possibly came from.
