March 11, 2022 - 2195 views

The return of the North Wales Choir Festival was very much welcomed by local hotels and businesses.

The festival was held last weekend in Venue Cymru, Llandudno, with over 700 choir members competing throughout the weekend. Choirs travelled from Ireland, England and Wales to compete.

The event opened on Saturday with Haraya Choir winning the Mixed Voice choir competition, Valley Aloud Community Choir taking second and Trust Singers coming third.

Cantamus Girls Choir took first place in the Youth competition, and Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Youth Choir were second place, and Valley Voices third.

Sunday’s competitions opened with the Just for Fun category, which saw Haraya Choir taking first place, Dun Laoghaire Musical Society second and Valley Aloud third. It was then on to the Ladies choirs with Belcanto coming first, Cheshire Chord Company second and Knutsford Star Choir third.

Audiences were not only entertained by competitions this weekend but also on Saturday evening, when choirs from various competition categories took the opportunity to be on stage in a more relaxed atmosphere, without worrying about the watchful eyes of the adjudicators!

Natalie Hughes, Events Conwy said: “The festival is a real boost for Llandudno as it attracts visitors in the winter months. The Choir Festival amongst other events is fundamental to establishing Conwy County as a year round destination.

“A big thank you to all our sponsors, Llandudno Hospitality Association, Llandudno Town Council, Aberconwy Car and Van Hire, and Visit Conwy, who’ve all contributed to make this event possible by working with Conwy County Borough Council.”
