Conwy County Borough Council is asking parents what they think about provision for pupils with Additional Learning Needs. It’s part of a wider consultation looking at how funding is allocated between the Council and schools for these services.
Currently, some of the funding for these services is allocated direct to schools, and some funding is managed centrally by the Council.
Schools can buy-in the services they need from the Council’s Education department under an arrangement called a Service Level Agreement (SLA). Or they can opt not to buy from the Council, and choose to make their own arrangements for their pupils.
Cllr Julie Fallon, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said, “We’ve been liaising with schools over a number of years to look at better ways to manage these agreements.
"And we’re going to be working with schools and all stakeholders to work out how this should look going forward and to shape future service provision to provide the best we can for our pupils.”
Head teachers, teachers, governors, school staff, parents and carers of children who use the services, and other stakeholders are all being asked to contribute to the consultation.

The findings from this part of the consultation are scheduled to be published in February, and further research will be taking place next spring.
The final outcomes will be presented to Scrutiny Committee and then to the Cabinet for a final decision next summer.
