Nathan Peate headed his first Seagulls’ goal on his Cymru Premier debut for the club to secure a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Connah’s Quay Nomads in the opening game of a new era at Blue Turtle Arena in the top flight of Welsh football.
Nomads took the lead after 26 minutes, but Colwyn Bay produced a good response and Peate equalised nine minutes later with a fine header from a George Hughes free kick
In a closely fought contest earlier, in front of a 1500 crowd, Nomads keeper Kit Margetson had to make a couple of diving stops from Jamie Cumming and Jordan Davies and Aaron Williams fired wide from a good opening, while Aeron Williams headed over the bar from a right wing cross to the far post.
Nomads, however, took the lead with a stooping header by Jason Oswell from a left wing cross.
The equaliser came when George Hughes floated a free kick from the right into the area and Nathan Peate rose highest to glance a header into the bottom corner of the net.
In the second half Jamie Cumming had a long range shot saved by the keeper and was wide of the target with another, but Bay almost won it late on when Louis Robles just failed to get a finishing touch as Aron Williams fired a low ball across the face of the Nomads goal.
Bay defended well to prevent Nomads scoring again and made sure the Seagulls came away with a valuable opening point which delighted manager Mike Wilde.
