This week is Safer Business Action Week, and North Wales Police are supporting the week of action, engaging with the business community as local teams are out and about this week.
A spokesperson said: "Our officers and staff engage with and support businesses in north Wales right throughout the year, but this week gives us a chance to re-enforce that support.
"We have seen an increase over the last few days of people using / attempting to use counterfeit £20 notes. Whilst the risk of receiving counterfeit notes is much less nowadays due to most transactions being done via contactless etc, we always advise retailers to remain vigilant and check every note using a detector pen and a UV light.
"Moving or tilting the note will reveal a coloured border around the edge of the ‘see through’ window on the note.
"Genuine banknote paper should be reasonably crisp and not limp, waxy or shiny as special printing processes give banknotes an individual feel."
