A man has died following a road traffic collision in Bangor yesterday afternoon.

Shortly before 1pm police received reports of a collision between two cars directly outside the Ambulance Station on Beach Road. The vehicles involved were a Toyota Yaris and a Vauxhall Vivaro.

Both the Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended.

The elderly male driver of the Toyota Yaris was airlifted to hospital in Stoke – but sadly, he died during the early hours of this morning.

The female passenger was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. She remains in a critical condition.

Both female occupants of the Vauxhall Vivaro were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd where they remain with serious injuries.

Detective Inspector Tim Evans of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time.

“We’d like to thank all those who have already spoken to us, however we are appealing for witnesses or anybody who may have been travelling along Beach Road just prior to the collision and who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

“The road was closed for a number of hours to allow our Forensic Collision Team to carry out their initial enquiries and I would like to thank the local community and motorists for their patience.”
