People travelling back from Spain or those who are planning a trip to the country are being warned that they face 14 days in isolation on their return from today.
Following a surge of new COVID-19 cases in mainland Spain, the Welsh Government was quick to follow the change in the rules announced in England late on Friday.
This now means that it is compulsory for all travellers returning back to Wales to quarantine and not leave their home over this time. The aim is to prevent any further spread of the virus from Spain back into Wales.
Health Minister Vaughan Gethin said: "The Ministerial Group agreed to remove all of Spain, including its islands, from the list of countries exempt from our health measures at the border with implementation to take effect at the beginning of Sunday, 26 July 2020.
"I have therefore made an urgent amendment to the Health Protection Regulations 2020, meaning anyone who arrives from Spain (or who has been in Spain during the past 14 days) will be required to quarantine for 14 days as of tomorrow."
Similar action has been taken by ministers in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.
