Colwyn Bay suffered another frustrating defeat against Caernarfon Town as two second-half goals sealed a 2-0 Good Friday win for the visitors in front of a record crowd at the Blue Turtle Arena.

A bumper attendance of 2,357 turned out for the clash – the highest in the Cymru Premier for 14 years and the fifth highest on record – creating a big-match atmosphere on the North Wales coast.

Despite the occasion, it was a familiar story for Colwyn Bay, who have now lost four of their six meetings with Caernarfon this season across league and cup competitions. The result also saw the Seagulls slip out of the top three, with Barry Town United moving above them following a 2-0 win away at Penybont.

Colwyn Bay started brightly and created early chances but were once again let down by their finishing. Lewis Sirrell had a clear opportunity inside the area but volleyed wide, while Aeron Edwards was played clean through just before half-time, only to slice his effort past the post.

At the other end, goalkeeper Alex Brown kept his side in the game with a string of impressive saves. He denied Zack Clarke twice and also kept out efforts from Adrian Cieslewicz, while Sol Forde produced a vital goal-line clearance to ensure the sides went in level at the break.

The deadlock was finally broken 12 minutes into the second half in unfortunate circumstances for the hosts. A cross from Ryan Sears took a deflection and went in off defender Ryan Astles for an own goal, giving Caernarfon the lead.

The visitors doubled their advantage on 70 minutes when Zack Clarke struck from the edge of the area, his effort slipping under the body of the diving Brown. It was a harsh moment for the Colwyn Bay keeper, who had otherwise produced an outstanding performance.

Brown continued to impress, making further saves to keep the scoreline down, but his efforts were not matched at the other end. Colwyn Bay pushed for a way back into the game late on, with Sol Forde heading just wide, Jordan Davies firing off target on the turn, and Nathan Peate seeing a header turned behind by Caernarfon goalkeeper Connor Roberts.

In the end, it was another case of missed chances proving costly for the Seagulls, on a day when a record crowd turned out but left disappointed as Caernarfon once again got the better of their North Wales rivals.
