Mountain rescuers in Eryri have made a plea for climbers, walkers and explorers to take care as another spell of cold and icy weather is expected across the North Wales region.

The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team had their busiest start to the year on record, with a 62% increase in callouts and a 53% increase in deployments compared to this time last year.

In February alone, they responded to various incidents including people stuck in snow, lost in wintry weather and injured on mountain tracks.

A spokesperson said: "We want everyone to have a good day in the mountains but please remember that we are still experiencing wintry conditions – check the weather forecast before heading out and remember to have the right equipment, footwear and extra clothing as it’s still bitterly cold up there."
