Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is reassuring concerned residents living in Conwy County Borough that bin collections are to continue as normal amid the Covid-19 ‘lockdown’ period.

Darren contacted the Leader of Conwy County Council after residents expressed concern that bin collections would be suspended as a result of the pandemic.

Today he received a response stating that the Council is not currently planning to change its collection regime.

Darren said: “Having seen speculation of potential changes elsewhere, people were understandably worried that their usual collections would not be taking place, however I have received an email from the Leader of Conwy County Council, Cllr Sam Rowlands, clearly stating “that there are no plans to suspend bin collections”.

"In fact he has informed me that they are “drafting more staff in to support the service”, such as leisure centre staff now that leisure centres across the county are closed”.

Councillor Rowland's email stated: “Clearly, nothing can be ruled out with this pandemic, but refuse collection is a priority, and we are even  including these staff as key workers in our child care arrangements through schools.”

Darren added: “I thank Cllr Rowlands for his prompt response and for putting people’s minds at rest.  He, along with all of his colleagues and staff at Conwy County Council, are doing fantastic work during these extraordinary times and I praise them all for that.”
