Following an exceptional haul of A-Level results, Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay is once again celebrating thanks to its latest GCSE results success.
34% of GCSE candidates secured A* (9-8) grades thanks to their talent, hard work and dedication. 50% of Rydal Penrhos pupils earned A* or A (9 to 7) grades; a figure that substantially exceeds the Welsh national average of 21.7%. 93% of candidates claimed A* to C (9 to 4) grades, compared to 64.9% in Wales.
Among the standout performers from Year 11 was Corso Cramerotti. The talented academic dropped only one grade across all his subjects, securing six A*s, four 9s, one 8 and a Distinction in Additional Maths. Philo Rozek was similarly close to perfection, dropping only two grades on the way to five A*s, three 9s, 2 As and a Distinction in Additional Maths.
Evan Martin, younger brother of Deputy Head Boy Tristan, achieved five A*s, two 9s, two 8s and a Distinction in Additional Maths. Arun Ramesh earned five A*s, two 9s, one A, two 8s and a Distinction in Additional Maths; closely matched by his twin brother Tarun, who scored five A*s, one 9, two As, one 8, one 7 and a Distinction in Additional Maths. Isabella Peevor claimed five A*s, two 9s, two 7s and a Distinction in Additional Maths.
The Additional Maths class produced an exceptional set of results, with thirteen Distinctions and one Merit. Year 10 pupils sitting their exams a year early also performed particularly well, with Keira Luke and Finlay Perry scoring perfect A*s or 9s across the board.
Mr Tom Hutchinson, who assumes the role of Principal from September, said:
“These are an exceptional set of results; I would like to congratulate our tremendously hard-working pupils and thank all the teachers and parents who have supported them along the way.
“Many of the pupils getting their results today were only twelve or thirteen years old when the pandemic forced them to face unprecedented new challenges. Their capacity to overcome those obstacles and achieve outstanding results is a testament to their character, the resilience of the school community, and the quality of teaching and learning at Rydal Penrhos.
“I wish our Year 11 pupils all the best as they begin their time in the Sixth Form, where they will no doubt go from strength-to-strength.”
