A swimming pool which originally opened 50 years ago has received a new lease of life.

The £150,000 refurbishment at Rydal Penrhos School is now formally complete and Year 3 pupils were able to see classmate Charlotte Knight’s competition art work for themselves under the supervision of staff last Friday (December 6th).

The school’s Estates team, led by manager Richard Smith, have been working tirelessly throughout the summer and through the autumn term on the project, and they will now begin filling it with water this week.

This process will take four days and involves half an inch per hour, before bringing the water to temperature and the installation of new chemical pumps.

They will then treat the water so it is compliant with health and safety standards before being available to use for the school community following the Christmas break.

Head of Physical Education Nicky Head, said: “This was an exciting event as they were also able to see what the pool looks like without any water.

“Once the pool is safe to enter our staff will receive training and in the New Year we will have a new pool and an exciting new swimming programme to offer all of our pupils.

The swimming pool originally opened more than half a century ago and in addition to weekly swimming lessons for pupils up to Year 9, there will also be competitive and recreational swimming at the facility. Details of the official reopening will be announced in the New Year.
