Seagulls aiming to stay clear at the top of the table

Seagulls  boss Steve Evans knows there can be no complacency when the table-toppers travel to third from bottom Gresford Athletic on Saturday (2pm kick off).

Eddie Maurice-Jones’ side have won only two of their 12 league games so far this season with only Holyhead Hotspur scoring fewer goals, but they had a tremendous 2-0 win away to Cymru South leaders Barry Town in the third round of the Welsh Cup and also beat Welsh Premier Airbus UK Broughton in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup before going out in the quarter-finals to Bala Town.

“I’ve watched them a few times this season and Eddie’s got them set up really well,” said Steve.“Their league position doesn’t justify the football that they are playing so we know we are going to have to be at it – which we will be.”

The Bay’s last visit to Clappers Lane was in July 2019 when they lost 1-0 in the Nathaniel MG Cup in what was their first game back in Welsh football.

Last season, when Gresford were playing their home games at Airbus, the Seagulls won 3-0 with goals from Sam Jones, Cai Owen and Rob Parry, and were also successful there in the Welsh Cup with goals from Mitch Bryant and Sam Jones.

Victory on Saturday would keep the Bay at least three points clear at the top of the JD Cymru North table with games in hand over nearest rivals Llandudno and Holywell Town, who face a tricky away game at Ruthin on Friday.
