Seagulls boss ready for Saturday's Welsh Cup challenge

Seagulls' manager Steve Evans says his side will be looking to give the fans something to sing about when they take on Connah’s Quay Nomads in the JD Welsh Cup on Saturday.

The game is live on S4C (12:45pm kick off) and Bay, still undefeated this season, are hoping to repeat last year’s cup success over the Nomads and win a place in the last 16.

Neil Gibson’s side, however, are going into the game on the back of a 10-match winning run in league and cups. They have already reached the semi-finals of the Nathaniel MG Cup, and were 5-0 winners last weekend away to Pontypridd to consolidate second place in the JD Cymru Premier table behind The New Saints.

Steve knows his side face a tough test, but says: “We’re excited by the challenge. We’re going into the game full of confidence, with the run we are on, and although it is a new season, we can draw on our experience from last season when we went there and won 2-0 deservedly so against the then champions of Wales.

“They still have the majority of players who played that day, so they will be wanting to put that right and we are expecting a tough game.

“We know it is going to be a physical battle again.

“There is something about the Welsh Cup that is special – these are the games you want to play in.

“We will be ready to perform and will be looking to give the Seagulls something to sing about again.”
