Colwyn Bay FC strengthened their push for a top finish in the Cymru Premier Championship Conference with a 3-1 home victory over Barry Town United FC.

Two second-half goals from Aeron Edwards, both created by Jordan Davies, sealed the win after Louis Robles had given the Seagulls the lead just before half-time.

The result moves Colwyn Bay into the top three of the Championship Conference table and continues an impressive campaign for the north Wales club, who have been pushing strongly since the league split.

Chances were limited during a tight opening period. Barry threatened early but Bay goalkeeper Ale Brown produced a fine save to turn a shot around the post. At the other end, Alex Moore was denied from close range by Barry keeper George Ratcliffe, who also kept out an acrobatic scorpion-style effort from Nathan Peate.

Peate was forced off after hurting himself attempting the effort and was replaced by Ryan Astles, but the hosts broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half-time when Robles finished neatly to give the Seagulls the advantage.

The second half belonged to Edwards. Nine minutes after the restart he doubled the lead, finishing from a Davies pass, before adding his second on 68 minutes with a delicate dink over the advancing Ratcliffe after another well-timed Davies assist.

Matty Hill almost added a fourth when his effort rippled the side-netting as Colwyn Bay continued to press.

Barry pulled a goal back on 78 minutes through Michael George, but any hopes of a comeback faded when Daniel Barton was sent off for violent conduct in the final ten minutes.

The win caps another strong performance in what has been a positive season for Colwyn Bay following their return to the Welsh top flight. Consistency at home and a number of important results against fellow Championship Conference sides have kept them firmly in the hunt near the top end of the table.

While the league title may be beyond reach at this stage of the season, finishing in the top three remains a realistic target and could yet open the door to European play-off opportunities depending on final standings and cup outcomes.

With momentum on their side and key players such as Edwards and Davies combining effectively in attack, the Seagulls will believe they still have plenty to play for as the Championship Conference campaign heads towards its conclusion.
