A Rhos-on-Sea hospice supporter will once again lace up his running shoes for a gruelling challenge in aid of local end of life care.
64-year-old Seghir Messamah from will be taking part in the Llangollen Fell Race later this month.
It is a 17 mile fell and trail race that takes in around 3000ft of elevation, taking in the beautiful views across Trevor Rocks, Eglwyseg and Rhuabon Mountains and then following a route towards Cyrn-Y-Brain and Watkins Tower. Then down the Offa’s Dyke and along the beautiful World’s End Trail back towards the finish.
This is the third running challenge Seghir has embarked on for St David’s Hospice. In the past three years he has also completed the Mount Toubkal Winter Climb in Morocco and the Anglesey Half Marathon last year, raising £1360 in total.
Seghir said: “I feel apprehensive about the race, with a degree of trepidation. It will be a long gruelling run with a substantial elevation gain. I am expecting sore legs at the end.
“St David’s Hospice help so many people and I hear nothing but good things about care they offer.
“They need all the help they can get to continue offering their free end-of-life care for people with terminal illnesses. It is a privilege to be able to contribute.”
St David’s Hospice offer 24-hour care, 365 days a year providing a clinical service alongside emotional, physical and spiritual support.
The Day Therapy Centres and Hospice at Home Service provide patient care, bereavement, and counselling services, whilst the Inpatient Units in Llandudno and Holyhead offer symptom control, respite, and end of life care.
This year it will cost over £5 million to run St David’s Hospice with just 9% of that figure coming from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board.
The majority of this comes from community fundraising such as Seghir’s challenge event.
