A local 'institution' has shocked residents by announcing it is quitting the town in which it made its name.
Slaters of Abergele, a well established car dealer was founded over 100 years ago and has served local motorists well until news came that the company was closing citing financial difficulties around a pension fund deficit.
The dealership which sells Citroen and Nissan cars announced the news to surprised staff and announced a number of redundancies.
The company said they would now be concentrating on their Vauxhall dealerships Colwyn Bay and Anglesey.
Slaters is a family owned company originally establshed back in 1912. It became known as Slaters after it was sold to a Captain Slater 6 years later. It was later sold to the Knowlson family in the early 20's and has remained in their ownership ever since.
