Stay safe says RNLI after paddle boarders rescued off Llandudno

Conwy's RNLI Water Safety team have asked those taking to the water along the North Wales coast to be extra careful of unexpected weather conditions.

Earlier this week Conwy Lifeboat was launched to reports of paddle boarders in difficulty off West Shore beach in Llandudno as tide was approaching low water. Offshore winds were blowing across the beach from the Orme.

The casualties were experienced, wore buoyancy aids and had a means of calling for help (mobile phone in a water proof pouch) but had unfortunately misjudged the wind direction and strength.

Each year the lifeboat teams in Llandudno and Rhyl get called out as a result of changing weather conditions and have reminded even the most experienced of watersports to ensure that always check the weather and tides, carry a radio or mobile phone, wear a leash and personal floatation device.

As an additional and important safety point, those out on the water should never do it alone and always tell family members what time they are expected home, so services can be alterted if the worst comes to the worst.
