A fast-growing local self-storage giant has opened its latest site – its 23rd across North and Mid Wales and the Border Counties.

The new Lock Stock storage park at Pensarn, near Abergele, already has over 30 units installed with more due to be delivered and they are reporting a high demand in the area.

The 1.5-acre site just off the A55 North Wales Expressway will eventually hold 180 storage units with a total storage capacity of over 170,000 cubic feet.

It confirms Lock Stock Self Storage as the UK’s biggest containerised self-storage company and gives them over 3,000 units at their sites which extend along the North Wales coast.

The Pensarn opening strengthens their presence on the coast and fills in a gap between their sites at Llandudno Junction and Rhyl.

Lock Stock Site Manager Lee Hanson said: “This is a perfect spot for us with easy access to the A55 which is just yards away and passing traffic can actually see our signage from the Expressway.

“We are in stalling 10- and 20-foot containers on the site and they are being snapped up – there’s a really high demand at the moment.

“Much of that is probably being driven by the property market which is very busy but we are also getting plenty of enquiries from small businesses as well.

“This is a popular holiday area and we’re also getting enquiries from people who have caravans nearby because it can be handy for them to be able to store all their holiday equipment here so they don’t have to transport it each time they visit.”

The site is due to have new electrically-operated gates fitted shortly incorporating keyless 24-hour access along with security lighting and cameras.

The storage units – at Pensarn a mix of 10-foot and 20-foot units with capacities of 640 and 1280 cubic feet – will be painted in Lock Stock’s distinctive dark green livery, are insulated and the site layout will be computer designed to ensure ease of access 24/7.

Most of the units are a by-product of the UK’s trade with China – most are Chinese-built and have made the 12,000-mile seven-week sea journey via the Suez Canal.

Gary Jones, from Abergele, has take one of the ten-foot units and he said: “I had been looking for storage for a while but there wasn’t any available and then I heard about this site opening and went on the waiting list.

“It’s perfect for me because I’m in the process of moving house and I also operate a gardening business so it’s perfect for me to also store my equipment in the unit and then load what I need into my van for work each morning.”

Lock Stock Operations Manager Stuart Bowker said: “Our business continues to expand organically by responding to demand – our sites at Rhyl, Denbigh and Llandudno Junction are very popular and it makes sense to increase our service along the North Wales Coast.

“We pride ourselves on the great service we offer, the convenience, the round-the-clock access and the security and believe this is why our existing sites are receiving more and more enquiries for storage space and we are reacting to meet that demand.

“We also look to see where the demand is coming from and if it is from somewhere we don’t already have a storage park as is the case with Pensarn then we look at finding a suitable site.”

“Businesses find them ideal because they can call each morning to stick up with materials before going out to jobs and that is one of the reasons we plan our sites very carefully so that our tenants Can easily access their units 24/7.

“They can often operate from a storage unit, calling there to stock up in the morning before going out to jobs and that is one reason we plan our sites very carefully so that our tenants can easily access their units 24/7.”

Lock Stock, founded in Denbigh in 1999, is the UK’s largest containerised storage company with over four million cubic feet of space at 23 parks across North and Mid Wales and the border counties.

The Pensarn site will be added to Lock Stock’s existing storage parks at Holyhead, Caernarfon, Bangor, Llandudno Junction and Rhyl on the North Wales Coast, on the Dee at Flint, Deeside and Saltney, and inland at the Colomendy Industrial Estate in Denbigh, Mold, Wrexham and Newtown in Powys, and at Oswestry and Shrewsbury in Shropshire.

The company also specialise in the off-site hire of containers such which can be delivered by their specialist lorry, sizes range from 10-feet long up through 20-footers to 40-foot units, all eight feet high and eight feet wide, from 640 to 2,560 in cubic feet in volume.
