Storm Ciara creates havoc across North West Wales

Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and the Conwy Valley has experienced a day of disruption and flooding after a heavy night of wind and rain was experienced across the region.

More heavy rain is currently driving in across Sunday adding to problems.

Residents in the Conwy Valley awoke this morning to find cars submerged deep in water and reportedly recent work on the Conwy Valley railway line has experienced serious damage.

Following the initial phase of Storm Ciara, a series of incidents have been reported. We expect these reports will continue well into Sunday as high winds continue to reach speeds of 60mph.

Locally, Beach Road in the Bay experienced flooding cutting off pathways into the town.

Llanrwst and the Conwy Valley experienced a night of major flooding with the A470 closed in both directions. Gwydir Road on the B5106 between Llanrwst and Trefriw currently remains impassible.

In Llanrwst local residents took to social media to share images of submerged cars and have made claims that 'proper preparations' for the storm were not in place.

Uncomfimed reports from Betws-y-Coed say that the historic Miner's Bridge outside the village has been washed away.

The Miners’ Bridge at the north of the village is where the Romans most likely crossed the River Llugwy. It was later used by the quarrymen to reach the mines of the Gwydyr forest.

Flooding has also been reported in Deganwy and towards Llandudno near the junction with the Links Hotel. Rain continued to batter Llandudno throughout the day with a small break of sunshine with very high winds during early afternoon.
