Sweltering Saturday brings the lifeboat out for tidal emergencies

As North Wales sweltered in the Saturday sunshine, volunteers and staff at our local lifeboat stations were kept busy responding to emergency call outs.

Yesterday was particularly busy for the teams looking after the Colwyn Bay, Abergele, Rhyl and Prestatyn shoreline. RNLI Rhyl reported a number of launches during the afternoon as some beach goers were cut off by the incoming tide.

Andrea Keenan Coastguard Rescue Officer said "The excellent weather has increased the number of visitors to the beaches and with it we've seen people unaware of the tidal conditions and unfortunately getting cut off from the shore on sandbanks.

"We advise people to visit a lifeguarded beach, and check the tide times ensuring that they are aware of any banks, and the potential of being cut off by an incoming tide."
